Our Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Canada (PHWFFC) community serves military personnel who have been wounded, injured or disabled and are in the process of rehabilitation.
The organization assists healing and recovery by offering fly fishing and fly tying activities. Skills are introduced to the novice fisherman or rebuilt through fishing outings and fly tying sessions.
The work with clients is done on an outpatient basis. The program will help veterans in areas where there are existing clubs, organizations and individuals who can provide what is needed.
Emphasis will be put on providing these activities to existing and retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces. However, we also welcome participants from other organizations such as the RCMP, other Canadian Police Members, EMS personnel and brain trauma victims. These individuals or groups should be directed to us by appropriate professional parties (Doctors, Counselors).
The Project’s program provides basic fly fishing, fly casting and fly tying sessions and clinics. These activities accommodate a range of knowledge and skills: from beginners to those with prior fly fishing and tying experience who are adapting their skills to their new abilities.
The Project’s training and educational activities are designed to develop enthusiasm for a wide variety of fly fishing outings. Most of these fishing trips are conducted within a half-day’s travel from a hospital. The Project also actively seeks opportunities to offer outings in quality fishing sites across the country.
The volunteer staff and outings leaders include professional educators and fishing guides as well as experienced fly fishers. All donate their time and knowledge to support the Project participants. Other volunteers help with educational, equipment, outings, training, and transportation needs.
All activities and services are provided to the participants at no cost, including trips near and far. Fly fishing and tying equipment and materials are provided to the participants, including equipment that accommodates their special needs as we are able to provide it.
All Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing activities are currently only funded and provided by our volunteers, supporters and suppliers.
We work closely with public and private support groups .
We invite you to help us serve those who serve us.
